3、aise money to pay for a statue and has now raised over 100,000!The bronze statue of Mary will be placed on the coast near where the pioneeringpalaeontologist made some of her most well-known discoveries.Who was Mary Anning?Mary Anning was born in 1799.She grew up poor and would help her dad collect
4、fossils from the beach to earn extra money.When Mary was just 12,she and her brother discovered the fossilised skull of a creature unlike anything seen before.It was from an animal that would later be known as an Ichthyosaur.They were marine reptiles that were alive during the time of the dinosaurs.
5、Later in life,Mary discovered the skeletons of a Plesiosaurus a marine reptile and a Dimorphodon a flying reptile.Despite her discoveries,some people were hesitant to take her finds seriously.Mary was an uneducated,working-class woman and so,at that time,some scientists refused to even give her cred
6、it for finding the fossils.After her death,Mary was largely forgotten about.However,136 later,in 2010,the Royal Society recognised her as one of the most influential women scientists in British history.Hopefully,with the help of the new statue,more people will be able to learn about and be inspired
