3、farne have been mercilessly attacked by mysterious Northmen.The raiders sailed from far across the sea.They landed at the unguarded monastery in the kingdom of Northumbria.Once the strangers reached Holy Island,they plundered then killed!They stole many precious Christian items and murdered many mon
4、ks.They even captured some of the monks and carried them away to far away lands where the invaders had come from.The priest Alcuin is furious.Hes written a letter to the bishop of Lindisfarne.In it,he said:“The pagans have desecrated Gods sanctuary,shed the blood of saints around the altar”.He went
5、on to say that the pagans“laid waste the house of our hope and trampled the bodies of the saints like dung on the street”.Some people have said that there were warnings of the attack before it happened.They say lightning,immense whirlwinds and fiery dragons had been seen in the sky.This is not the f
6、irst attack that has been carried out by these tyrants.It has also been noted that,in the year AD 789,three ships landed on the coast in the kingdom of Wessex.There they were greeted by the kings men who wanted to take them to see the king of West Wessex.But the messengers were killed by the terribl
