1、Mogao CavesNear the oasis city of Dunhuang in the Gobi desert, Gansu Province, a honeycomb of caves is sculptured into a cliff wall often, referred to as the Caves of the 1,000 Buddhas, these caves were mostly built between the fourth and fourteenth centuries. Nowadays, only 492 of these caves still
2、 exist. This special site is not only considered a historical rarity in China, but also is an outstanding cultural heritage for all the world. In 1987 the caves were registered as one piece of the worlds cultural heritage sites.
