They arranged a team of young women from across Canada to help and learn in Central America. We lived in a small town in t

13、he mountains of the Esteli region. We were split into seven pairs and placed with seven different host families. We went through a week of pretraining in Toronto. Though we had received some training, things didnt go as well as we had expected.The biggest barrier was language. Many of us were told t

14、hat our host families would speak English. As such, it was quite a shock to be dropped off at our host familys home to find they spoke absolutely no English at all. My roommate was from Quebec and she spoke fluent French. No wonder her transition(过渡) to learning Spanish was much easier.The culture s

15、hock was much more evident in Nicaragua, as everything was very different from my home in Canada. My biggest struggle overall was handling illness.
