1、英语目的状语表示法六种一、用“so that+从句或so as to十不定式”表示。目的状语从句由so that引出时,从句谓语通常有情态动词can/could,will/would,may/might,should等。若主、从句主语相同,so that从句也可简化为so as to do sth的形式,通常置于句末,其否定式为so as not to do sth(注:不能用not so as to do sth,so not as to do sth或so as to not do sth)。如He studies hard so that he can pass the exam.=He
2、 studies hard so as to pass the exam.他努力学习以便能通过考试。I came in quietly so that I should not to wake him.=I came in quietly so as not to wake him.我轻轻进来,以免吵醒他。二、用“in order that+从句或inorder to+不定式”表示。此句式与上面的情况基本相同。若主、从句主语一致,in order that从句也可简化为in order(not)to do sth的形式,可置于句首或句末(注:否定式不能用not in order to Do s
3、th,in not order to do sth或in order to not do sth)。如He does so in order that he wont be caught.=He does so in order not to be caught.他那样做是为了不被抓住。注:用in order(not)to do sth和 so as(not)to dosth表示目的时,有时可进一步简化为不定式的形式,但语气稍弱。如:He is saving to(so as to,in order to)buy a car.他在存钱,以便买车对于So that和in order that引导
4、的目的状语从句,若其主语与主句主语不同而用不定式改写,可用介词for来引出不定式的逻辑主语。如:I stood aside so that she might Pass.=I stood aside for her to pass.我站在一边,让她过去。三、用“for fear(that)十从句”表示。For fear的意思是“惟恐”、“以免”。从句谓语既可用、should/might+动词原形”这样的虚拟语气,也可用陈述语气。若主、从句主语相同,该句式可简化为,forfear of+名词或动名词”的形式。如:She doesnt let her child go out alone for
5、fear(that)he is lost.她不让孩子一个人出去,惟恐丢失。The police man dared not fire for fear that he should hit for fear of hitting the others.警察不敢开枪,怕击中别人。四、用“in case+从句”表示。In case意为“以防”,与for fear that相似,in case所引导的从句也可用陈述语气或“should+动词原形”这样的虚拟语气。如:Take an umbrella in case it rains it should rain.带把雨伞,以防下雨。注:“in cas
6、e+从句”有时可简化为“in case of+名词”。如:The wall was built a long the river in case offloods.沿河建了这堵墙以防涨洪水。五、用for+名词或动名词”表示。如:Let us go out for walk我们出去散散步吧。This is a case for keeping records in.这是放唱片的盒子。注:要表示“做某事为了达到做另一事之目的”,英语通常用do sth to do sth,习惯上不用do sth for doing sth。如:他来这儿看足球赛。正:He came here to see the f
7、ootball match.误:He came here for seeing the football match.六、用固定短语表示。这类短语常见的有for the purpose of(为了的目的)for the sake of(为了),for the good(benefit)of(为了的利益),in the hope of(怀着的期望),in praise of(称赞,歌),in honour of(为向表示敬意;为了纪念),in search of(寻,寻求),等等。He came here for the purpose of giving us a talk.他来这儿是为了给我们作报告。The teacher repeated part of his lecture for the good of those who had been absent.为了缺课的学生,老师又把上次讲稿中的部分内容重讲了一遍。They went out in search of food.他们外出寻找食物。I went there in the hope of finding a good job.我怀着找一份好工作的希望去那儿。
