4、and Talking(team-work)T:We dont know each other before,some of you may guess what kind of person the teacher is,some may miss your old friends,some may feel lonely,but I tell you from now on we are not only teachers and students,also we are friends.We know in our daily life,everyone needs friends an

5、d friendship.In the new surroundings,you need to make friends and this unit can help you.Activity one:Ask the students to describe themselves or a good friend.Ask students to think about at least three words to describe themselves and then let each student tell the team members the three characteris

6、tics they have chosen.Activity two:Ask the students to write down the three characteristics and let other students guess who it is.The following words or structures may be helpful:Words:brave,courage,fearless,heroic,frightened,shocked,astonished,terrified,timid,devoted,loyal,cute,bright,attractive,b

7、eautiful,charming,cool,smart,lovely,elegant,pretty,intelligent,hard-working etc.Sentence structures:My friend is,She/He enjoys,hates,She/He is nice/friendly/smart,Step3 Doing a survey Have the students do the survey in the textbook and score their survey according to the scoring sheet on page 8.The

8、teacher asks the students to assess their values of friendship according to their scores.4-7 points:You are not a good friend.You neglect your friends needs or just do what your friend wants you to.You should think more about what a good friend really needs.8-12 points:You are a good friend but you

9、sometimes let your friendship become too important,or you fail to show enough concern for your friends needs and feelings.Try to strike a balance between your friends needs and your own responsibilities.13+points:You are an excellent friend who can recognize what a good friend needs,balance your nee

10、ds and your friends.Step4 Discussion(team work)T:Which kind of friend do you think is the best friend?Of course any answer is possible.Everyone may have his own reasons.But you should remember the old saying”A friend in need is a friend indeed”,the best friend should be a man whom you can depend on

11、forever,not in a certain period of time.Or one who can share my happiness and sorrow.Or one who can understand your silence.Or one who can call up at any time and dont complain about it.T:Whether can only human beings be our friends?Of course animals,plants,books,diaries,toys,computers,phones,emails

13、nts meet with while writing.Step5 Writing Ask each team to write down a short passage about friends or friendship.Team members should complete the short passage cooperatively,ask one student to write down the team composition.If time permitting,ask some team to show their composition to the whole cl

14、ass.If not,each team finish it after class as homework.T:The teacher must tell the students a short passage(about 100 words)is different from the list items,it needs some transitive words,phrases and sentences.Topic1:Why do you need friends?List the reasons.Topic2:How to make friends?List the ways.T

17、 freely because of the words or phrases or structures.Students may be shy in new class,arouse the students to spend more time.Students do not know how to write a short passage.Teaching contents are more than the students can accept.Sample:How to Make Friends Everyone needs friends.A friend can give

18、us help and share our difficulties and happiness.But how can we make friends?First,to make friends,you must be friendly to others.Smile at others and you are sure to get a smile in return.You should try to make a stranger feel at home wherever he happens to be.Think more of others than of yourself a

19、nd never judge a person by his appearance and clothes.Second,friends should negotiate instead of quarrel.When you dont agree someone,please discuss with him.Finally,never believe in those who leave you when you are in trouble.And never leave your friend when he is in trouble.Remember,a friend in need is a friend indeed.Friends should be faithful to each other.So long as you can put your friends interests in front of yours,you will have a lot of good friends.
