4、est city. Who would like to read your description to us?A sample version:I was born in a small town in the north of Hebei province, which is the same size as one tenth of the city of Beijing. Though my hometown is very small in size, yet it is a fairly beautiful place with not only beautiful natural

5、 sense, but also kind people. In the past, in the north of the town was a large lake, whose water was so clean that we could see fish swimming and playing happily. In spring, people came here to go boating to relax. In winter, people came here to go skating on the frozen lake. To the east of the lak

6、e lay a great field on which peasants grow all kinds of crops, such as wheat, corn and so on. When winter came, the snow would cover the field, promising a good harvest in the next year. When spring came, everything on the field turned green, the field seemed to be dressed a beautiful green coat. Pe

7、ople living there all had warm heart and were ready to help each other what a nice place my hometown was in the past!With the development of society, a great many changes have taken place in my hometown. More and more people are driven by money to start all kinds of small factories along the lake, w

8、hich produce so much waste such as polluted water, gas, and used matters. When dealing with these wastes, many factories turn to the lake to regard it as the home of waste. These wastes that are thrown into the lake bring about the terrible pollution of the lake. The number of fish is becoming small

9、er and smaller. And the water set off a terrible smell. In addition to these, a lot of rubbish is laid on the field which destroy the formal grow of the crops. Now, the beautiful things of the past have gone. Every time I remember the pollution in my hometown, I feel sad. I call on people to protect

10、 the environment to bring back the beautiful things in the past.Step II Writing (1)Deal with Activity 1 in WRITING on Page 38. T: In the last period, we have read a short description of Dickens novel Great Expectations. I think you should have had some ideas about the main characters in it. What are

11、 they?Ss: Pip, Estella, Miss Havisham and Abel Magwitch.T: Now Id like you to write a short description of these characters about their family, situation in life and personality. A sample description:Pip lived in a poor family with his sister and her husband. They didnt treat him well. So he lived a

12、 hard life. But he was a kind boy. He helped a prisoner called Abel Magwitch and as a result, got a lot of money from him later. Finally he married the mans daughter whom he had always loved.Estella was a beautiful girl. She was cold and cruel to Pip and looked down upon him. She happens to be Abel

13、Magwitchs daughter. She had an unhappy marriage and finally fell in love with Pip and married him. Miss Havisham was a wealthy but lonely woman. She hated all man because her finance left her on her wedding day. But Miss Havisham also helped Pip.Abel Magwitch once escaped from prison and was helped

14、by Pip. But he was soon caught again and sent to Australia. Some years later, he made a lot of money in Australia. He gave a lot of money to Pip in order to repay his kindness. But sadly he was caught again by the police and died. Step III Writing (2)Deal with Activity 2 in WRITING on Page 38.T: Wor

15、k in pairs or small groups. Rewrite the last two paragraphs to the story, changing the story and giving it a different ending.Show the requirements on the screen:1. Discuss your idea;2.
