10、ink of two regions,cities,towns or villages you know well.One of them could be your hometown.2)Write notes about some of these features:populationclimateindustrylocationtourismtransport3)Write sentences using your notes.Harbin is a cold,industrial centre in the north.It has over three million inhabi

11、tants.Guangzhou is a hot,industrial port in the south.It has over four million inhabitants.4)Rewrite the sentences and compare the two places.Use the link words in Grammar,and the ways of making comparisons in Function.5)Organise your sentences into paragraphs.Each paragraph should discuss one parti

12、cular feature.You may need to rewrite some of your sentences.6)Write a sentence to start your description about the two places saying what you know about them or whats special about them.7)Write a sentence to finish your description and give your opinion about the two places.Harbin and guangzhou are

15、ses.Pay attention to the ways of rewriting.Step 4Homework1Rewrite the passage in step 2.2Collect the information of your hometown,including pictures.How to Compare Two Cities When Writing an Essay1Choose the scope for the comparison.For example,you could focus your entire essay on the impacts of sim

16、ilar historical events,or on experiencing the local art and music scene,or on the demographics and political leanings in the two cities.These examples would lead to a more narrowed comparison,whereas a broader comparison might compare the two cities climates,major industries,nightlife and religious

17、culture,all within the same essay.2Outline the order in which you will present your points of comparisons,and allot one paragraph to each point of comparison.To represent each paragraph in the outline,write a topic sentence that states your overall opinion of how the two cities compare on a specific

18、 point.Heres an example:Austin and Nashville have both long been considered fertile ground for budding musicians,so they are both terrific places to see talented upandcomers at inexpensive live music venues.3Write and develop each paragraph by building upon each topic sentence.Write a sentence or tw

19、o detailing how the topic sentence is true for City ANext,write a sentence or two detailing how the topic sentence is true for City BFor example,if your topic sentence introduces the similarities of 18thcentury architectural sites in both Philadelphia and Dublin,you might develop the paragraph with

20、a description of Philadelphias panoptical Eastern State Penitentiary and next with a description of the Dublins panoptical Kilmainham Gaol.Conclude each paragraph with a sentence that sums up the importance of this particular comparison.4Proofread your essay three times.Read the paper through once w

21、ith fresh eyes to ensure that the information would make sense to you if you were reading the essay for the first time.Read through a second time to polish any sentences that would sound better with different words,phrases,or sentence structures.A third and final readespecially if you read it out loudwill help you catch any final misspellings or missing words.
