One of the strangest occurrences is the story of the Mary Celeste, a small sailing ship which was carrying industrial alcohol from New York to Italy. The Mary Celeste l
153、eft New York in early November 1872. A month later it was found in the eastern Atlantic 600 miles from Gibraltar. The ship was not damaged and did not seem to be in any danger, but the lifeboat and the ten people who left New York on the ship were gone. They were never found. Many explanations were
154、suggested for the disappearance of the people on the Mary Celeste, but no one managed to find proof for any of the explanations. All the experts could come to only one sure conclusion: The people left the ship in the lifeboat. Then perhaps the lifeboat sank in a sudden storm. But why did the people leave the ship? We still do not have an answer to that question.
