1、International donors have pledged more than 16 billion US dollars in development aid for Afghanistan over the coming 4 years.Some 80 countries and international organizations gathered in Tokyo over the weekend to seek to prevent Afghanistan from sliding back into chaos when foreign troops leave in 2
2、014.The pledge came as Afghanistan agreed to new conditions to deal with corruption.Afghan President Hamid Karzai.I recognize, ladies and gentlemen, that the success of our partnership will depend on our mutual ability to be accountable and to prove our practices so that the hard-earned money of you
3、r taxpayers is utilized most effectively and transparently.However, the money being pledged at Sundays meeting amounts to 4 billion dollars annually, short of the Afghan Central Banks estimate that at least 6 billion dollars a year is needed in economic investment in the country over the next decade.For more on international aid for Afghanistan, we are joined on the line by Klaus Gerhaeusser, Director General for Central and West Asia of Asian Development Bank.
