在表达“以的速度”时候应用at a/the speed of。

D项在此处表被动,相当于when they are asked。 take up意为“从事”,可根据as a doctor判断。

根据句中的among the lowest in Britain和probably one of the highest可知前后的意义存在对比,while用作并列连词,可用于对比的情况,意为“而,但是”。 本文第一空为与not what you said并列的

、主语从句;第二空为强调句的that,强调并列的主语从句not what you said but what you did。 speed up加快,加速;sweep up打扫;put up举起,张贴,建起。 for an instant 瞬间。

A company in Atlanta, US, developed a selfcleaning paint modeled on the lotus (荷花) leaf;B项不符合In Zimbabwe, a country in southern Africa, engineers designed energyefficient buildings modeled on termite (白蚁)mounds (土堆);C项文章未提及。 The boxfish may look clumsy, but

、it can start, stop, back up and zigzag (曲折前进)through the water with ease. And it does all this using surprisingly little energy. Daimlers bionic (仿生学的)car is modeled on the fishs boxy skeletal (骨骼的) system. When top engineers in Germany wanted to build a more energyefficie

、nt car, they headed to the natural history museum to study dolphins and sharks. The compa

、ny Terrafugia, based in Woburn, Massachusetts, says it plans to deliver its carplane, the Transition, to customers by the end of 2012. The car plane has wings that unfold for flyinga process the company says takes one minuteand fold back up for driving. The carpl

、ane is designed to fly primarily under 10,000 feet. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 1,430 pounds, including fuel and passengers. Another option is a fullplane parachute.和“If you get into a very awful situation, it is the necessary safety option,” Gersh said.的过渡关系,再结合句中的“a very awful situation”可推断it应指降落伞,故选D。
