1、The latest Strategic and Economic Dialogue between the China and the United States has kicked off here in Beijing.CRIs Wei Tong takes us through what has been said at todays opening sessions.While delivering a speech at the opening session, Chinese President Hu Jintao says that China-US cooperation
2、will bring great opportunities to both nations and the world.But at the same time, the Chinese President says confrontation will only lead to the opposite.Whatever changes may take place in the world and no matter how the domestic situations in our two countries may evolve, China and the United Stat
3、es should be firmly committed to advancing the cooperative partnership and build a new type of relations between major countries that is reassuring to both peoples and the people across the world.Hu Jintao says both sides need to properly manage their differences.China and the United States have dif
4、ferent national conditions, so it is impossible for the two sides to see eye to eye on every issue. To build a new type of relations between us, we need to act in a spirit of equality and mutual understanding. We must also eradicate the traditional belief that big powers are bound to enter into conf
5、rontation and conflicts. Instead we should seek new ways of developing relations between major countries in the era of economic globalization.US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is co-chairing the Strategic and Economic Dialogue, is echoling Hu Jintaos statement, vowing to build a cooperative

So we are working to build the relationship that allows both of our countries to flourish without unhealthy competition or conflict while at the same time meeting our responsibilities to our people and to the international community.The two-day dialogue is composed of two sideline ev
8、ents.The strategic talks focus on China and the United States roles on issues involving geo-politics.The economic portion is focused mainly on expanding trade and investment opportunities and stabilizing financial markets.The dialogue is co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.For CRI, I am Wei Tong.
