Teaching Content Analysis This passage which includes two parts ,the first part is a letter, the second part is an internet page ,mainly talks about grandad wrote t

2、o James to persuade him to quit smoking ,in which mainly talks about three questions : how people are addicted to smoking ;why we should quit smoking; and how we can stop smoking . The topic is familiar to the students but the whole text is hard to understand because of a lot of information and too

3、much implied information especially grandads feelings change and his love for his grandson which is scattered in the whole passage. Students are supposed to solve these three questions and form right attitude towards smoking .1. Important Points 1) Students understand and master some advanced words

4、and phrases and sentence pattern. 2) Students access and synthesize some shallow and inner information in the passage. 3) Students learn to take right attitude towards smoking.2. Difficult Points 1) Students get better understanding of grandads purpose and feeling changes. 2) Students learn to take

5、right attitude towards smoking.II. Learners AnalysisThe students are from Grade Three, Class Eight of Panan No.2 Middle School which is a key class of this school. The students have a sound foundation of English learning, active classroom atmosphere. But there is still great room for them to improve

6、: their English levels are significantly different; their ability of accessing and synthesizing information and their oral English are not excellent enough. To solve these problems, there are various activities in this period such as :prediction ,finding topic sentences and titles; filling in blanks

7、 ;summary; discussion etc. III.Teaching AimsBy the end of this lesson, students will be able to:1) Students get to comprehend the text and grasp important new words and phrases and sentence pattern: be addicted to ; tough , adolescence (adolescent ), due to , desperate , pregnant,be accustomed to ,

8、strengthen, if I were, I wouldetc.2) Students learn to access and synthesize the information of the passage, especially some implied information. 3) Students form right attitude towards smoking.IV. Teaching Procedures Step one: Greetings and Lead-in活动一: The teacher cheers the whole class up by greet

9、ing them.活动二:Lead in and prediction T: One of the mistakes we often made during our adolescence is smoking , take my brother James for example . As an adolescent, out of curiosity , he started smoking ,gradually ,he was addicted to it ,as we all know ,its easy to begin smoking ,but its tough to quit

10、 it , so he felt very desperate , when my granddad heard of it ,he wrote a letter to James ,my Granddad is a man who believes in “He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything .” if you were Grandad , what would you write to James, can you predict?S1:If I were Grandad , I would writ

12、活,而本篇课文是爷爷以写信的形式,通过自身的经历来劝说孙子-James禁烟,主要讲述了人们为什么会对吸烟上瘾;吸烟会产生什么危害,以及如何戒烟这三个问题。单元话题A healthy life笔者认为太大,所以导入部分直接以“我们年少时,经常犯的一个错误-“吸烟”为切入口,并将文中的主要人物Grandad、Granson(James)称为是自己的爷爷和弟弟,这样会吸引学生对话题的兴趣(因为学生对老师的有关事情比较感兴趣),并且以自己弟弟(James)的“怎样开始吸烟-吸烟上瘾-想戒烟”的故事配以图片来引出和让学生感知课文中的一些重点词汇如:adolescence/adolescent、curio

13、sity、be addicted to 、tough 、quit 、desperate、 granddad等。最后以if you were Grandad , what would you write to James, can you predict? 让同学们预测文本的内容,培养学生的预测能力。同时也训练本单元的重点句型(与现在事实相反,虚拟语气的表达句型)。预测之后让同学们阅读文本,以检测他们的预测是否正确,自然而然让学生进入到文本阅读阶段。Step two: Reading活动一: Please glance through the text and find out : 1 .How

20、成了什么危害”的思路让学生对文本中的信息进行重组、归类和整合提炼,以突出重点信息,简化复杂内容。很好地训练了学生的信息提取和整合能力。同时引导同学们认识到吸烟对自己和对别人都会造成危害,特别是对家人,不要让家人成为被动或二手烟的受害者,让同学们认识到:为了爱你的人,和你所爱的人,我们都不应该吸烟!T:Now that we have known harmful effects of smoking , so its time we should quit smoking , How can we stop smoking ? 23、相当于新高考中的“七选五”的形式。引导同学们对该部分文本信息进行高级整合,也是对同学们是否准确理解该部分文本信息的检测。首先让同学们给James提建议,有一个思考的过程,同时也练习同学们的口头表达能力;再让同学们完成“七选五”的练习,提高了阅读的有效性。Step three: Further reading 活动一: There are two clues of the passage ,one is “The clues of advice” ; the other is “The changes of Granddads feeling” , can you match them , ha

24、ve a try! 【设计说明】:文中有两条线,一条是爷爷给的建议线,另外一条是爷爷的情感变化线,这两条线梳理有点难度,为了降低难度,笔者设计成了连线配对的形式,在课堂活动中,先让学生自己思考;再相互交流,最后一起核对答案。这样有利于学生对文本主线的把握,深度推断爷爷的情感变化,提升了学生的批判性思维的能力,同时也是一种思想交流和碰撞的互动活动。活动二: Think of Grandads writing ways and the reason Q1:In which way did grandad try to persuade his grandson to give up smoking

Suggested answer:From his own experience.Q2:What are advantages of using this method ?Ss:Through his own experience ,Granddad can make his advice more believable , more convincing , and he hopes his grandson quit smoking, and hopes his grandson lives as long as himself , from above we can see his

Feedback The teaching design combines the two famous theories TBLT and ESA together to successfully lead the students develop their ability of accessing and synthesizing information, to cultivate their reading skill and to effectively achieve their learning aims. In this period, the teacher perf

33、orms like an instructor to lead the students to read, to think and to talk and discuss. And in this period, there are various activities such as:prediction ,finding topic sentences and titles; filling in blanks ;summary; discussion etc. which greatly inspired and activate the students to focus their attention and to involve themselves in the period.
