1、Kite flying is big in China. And nowhere is it bigger than in Weifang. The eastern city is currently holding its 29th international kite festival. 2、 in a field with thousands and thousands of people. Most of them are flying kites.My name is Grant. Im actually teaching English in Shandong right now.How did you come to take part in this kite festival?My students told me about it and they said, if youre in Shandong and so close to Weifang you have
3、 to go.67 countries and regions are represented in the festival, which is one of the biggest events in the region.Dominic: the sky is littered with tons of different shaped and coloured kites flying in the wind. Some shaped like butterflies, some like arrows. But some of the most interesting are the
4、se huge dragons.The dragon kites are traditional to Weifang. Theyre made of dozens of small discs, strung together like huge caterpillars with a dragon head at the end. Zhou Huai Xue is flying one of them.He says this ones about 108 metres and takes about 15 people to get it airborne. Although the w
5、inds not strong they still managed to fly it for a while.This events also popular with locals.Mr Yang lives nearby and comes every year. He says he likes the festival because its so big with many countries and Chinese regions represented.This years festival continues until April 27. But the local tradition of kite flying looks like it will never go away.For CRI, Im Dominic Swire.
