When his father died in 1874, he was apprenticed to a printer,and worked as aprinter and contributer to loca
2、l newspapers until 1875. He then spent 3 years working as a piolot on a steamship on the Mississippi River .During the Civil War he fought for the Confederates. The name “Mark Twain” was first used on February 3rd 1863 in a humorous newspaper travel article. In 1864 he moved to California and worked
3、 on various newspapers. He traveled to Hawaii and lectured and wrote on his trip afterwards. He also visited France and Italy, and in 1869 wrote Innocents Abroad based on his experiences. In 1870 he married Olivia Langdon,with whom he had four children. He then begen writing fill time, and prouduced
4、 The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876),The Prince and the Pauper (1881), Life on the Mississippi (1883),and The Adventures of Huckleberry Firm (1884). These brought him weath and fame,and he lectured in the USAand UK. In the 1890s, however , he lost his money when his publishingcompany failed. He trie
5、d to regain his wealth through Lecture tour of N ew Zealand , Australia, India and South Africa. However , his daughter died on the trip .
